Why Nutrition

In Somalia, malnutrition remains a critical issue, especially among vulnerable populations. DBG recognizes that preventing malnutrition is essential for a healthy society. Our program aims to strengthen community resilience and systems to tackle malnutrition proactively.

What we Do
DBG collaborates with local authorities and partners to implement comprehensive nutrition interventions. These include ensuring access to quality nutrition care for pregnant women, providing nutritious food to households with pregnant women and young children, and promoting hygiene and proper child-feeding practices.

Our Interventions
We focus on the systematic identification and referral of acutely malnourished individuals to local health facilities. Our food distribution component targets preventive nutrition for vulnerable IDP communities. Additionally, DBG conducts training for nutrition ambassadors, typically community mothers, who engage in peer-to-peer education and demonstrations on optimal nutrition and breastfeeding practices.

Focus Areas
Our primary focus areas include enhancing nutrition care for pregnant women and young children, improving food security, and educating mothers on nutrition and hygiene. We also emphasize training community members to be nutrition ambassadors, fostering a grassroots approach to combating malnutrition.

The Impact

In the past year, DBG's nutrition program has made significant strides in reducing malnutrition rates among vulnerable populations. Our interventions have reached numerous households, improving the nutritional status of pregnant women, young children, and IDPs. Through our education and training programs, we have successfully empowered communities with the knowledge and resources to maintain better nutrition and health practices.
